Philippa Hayes is a London based British photographer.
She developed an interest in photography at an early age, fascinated by watching her photographer father developing images in his darkroom. With this interest in taking photographs throughout her life, from urban landscapes to documenting the everyday, her practice now sits on the fringes of art photography.
Always attracted to the contemplative or slightly melancholy side of life she has a particular interest in finding the beauty in the decayed or discarded, the well-worn and fragile, the solitary or abandoned, the underside or underbelly. Along with an interest in the precarious nature of the world we now live in, her multi-faceted compositions aim to highlight these fragilities. Using digital technology she often combines layers to create images that exist somewhere between the here and now and another more timeless place.
